Gynecologic Oncology

Cervical cancer screening

VIA, Pap smear or HPV testing to find precancer early.

What it is

Screening looks for early changes in the cervix before they become cancer. It is quick and usually painless.

Who it's for

Women aged 30–49, and women living with HIV from a younger age.

What to expect

  • A short pelvic examination
  • Results the same day for VIA; within days for laboratory tests
  • Treatment or follow-up plan if changes are found

Common questions

How often should I be screened?
It depends on the test used and your HIV status. Your doctor will tell you when to return.
