Clinical rotations

Your rotation map

Six places you will learn during the OB/GYN attachment.

  • 1 · Obstetrics

Antenatal wards: history taking in pregnancy, abdominal examination, fundal height and fetal heart assessment. You learn to recognise danger signs.

  • 2 · Gynecology

Gynecology wards: pelvic assessment with supervision, pre- and post-operative care, and common conditions such as fibroids and ovarian cysts.

  • 3 · Labor ward

Follow women through labor, use the partograph, assist normal deliveries under supervision and learn active management of the third stage.

  • 4 · Operating theatre

Scrub in for cesarean sections and gynecologic surgery. Learn sterile technique, surgical anatomy and safe-surgery checklists.

  • 5 · Outpatient clinic

Antenatal, family planning and gynecology clinics: counselling, contraception, cervical screening and follow-up care.

  • 6 · Emergency care

Recognise and respond to obstetric emergencies: bleeding, eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy and sepsis, as part of the team.
