Resident training
How residents learn
Clinical training
Residents manage patients on the labor ward, gynecology ward, antenatal and gynecology clinics and the emergency department under consultant supervision. Responsibility grows each year.
Surgical training
Graded surgical exposure from cesarean section and evacuation to hysterectomy, myomectomy and laparoscopy, supported by simulation training on laparoscopic trainers.
Academic sessions
Regular seminars and teaching sessions cover the core curriculum and national guidelines, with presentations prepared by residents and reviewed by faculty.
Research
Every resident completes a research project, from proposal and ethical approval to data collection, analysis and presentation.
Case conferences
Multidisciplinary discussion of challenging cases and maternal and perinatal outcomes, turning experience into learning for the whole team.
Journal clubs
Residents critically appraise recent studies and discuss how the evidence applies to women in Ethiopia.
